The goals of the Japanese National Research Grid Initiative (NAREGI) project are to conduct R&D on Grid middleware as a prototype for future national-scale research Grids, to Grid-enable a specific target application area (nano-science), and to perform experimental deployment and demonstration of large-scale Grids based on the middleware and Grid-enabled applications. We have defined the NAREGI software stack and have developed prototypes built on standard Grid middleware such as UNICORE, Globus and Condor. We have also established the NAREGI Test Bed, which consists of cluster systems and Unix SMP servers with various architectures and operating systems. The aggregate performance is approximately 15 Tflops/s with over 3000 CPUs which are distributed at multiple sites. These systems are connected via SINET3, the 40Gbps optical national backbone network for academic research, which is used as the NAREGI networking infrastructure. We have developed resource management middleware which can broker and coallocate multiple and heterogeneous computing resources across multiple sites in order to run MPMD (e.g.,coupled simulation) and large scale MPI jobs. We will demonstrate the NAREGI grid middleware using complex nano-science application programs in our booth. For additional information please visit : http://www.naregi.org
