National Research Grid Initiative of Japan (NAREGI) HPC Asia 2004 Workshop
| Date | : 21 July, 2004 |
| Place | : Omiya Sonic City, Omiya, Japan. |
Workshop Overview
NAREGI (National Research Grid Initiative) is one of the collaboration
projects among industry, academia and government, initiated by the
Ministry of Education, Sports, Culture, Science and Technology (MEXT).
At the Center for Grid Research & Development, our research and
development area are the grid middleware and the networking
technologies; the Grid is regarded as the foundation for the information
technology in the 21st century. NAREGI Computational Nanoscience
Center, Institute for Molecular Science, is another newly established
site in the NAREGI Project. There the research will be conducted on the
application software and the simulation in the leading edge nano-science
and nano-technology, which are essential in the industrial research and
development; some such examples are the new materials and next
generation nano-scale devices. The Center for Grid Research &
Development and the NAREGI Computational Nanoscience Center, Institute
for Molecular Science are connected via the ultra-high-speed Science
Information Network (Super SINET). Japan's leading institutions from
industry, academia and government also take part in NAREGI Project, and
it is expected that the fruits of the project will boost the research
and development in the related scientific fields, and furthermore, will
lead to the strengthening of Japan's competitiveness in the world's
economy.
This workshop will bring together some of key project members from industry,
universities and national labs to present the current state of their work and future plans.
It is expected that this workshop would give a good opportunity
to put together all the primary components of the NAREGI project in the same place,
and thus help us to capture a more clear and concrete blueprint
for a Japan's upcoming Grid infrastructure.
